DIY Macrame Big Coaster/Tablemate to add beauty to your home

This is my second project on Macrame art. You can glance through my first project of easy Macrame Wall Hanging. I really enjoyed making macrame wall hanging which is adding charm to my living room and got enthusiastic to try another project. While exploring the macrame patterns, I came across the Macrame coaster and thought of giving it a try. Got inspired by MCA tutorial on youtube and added some different knot patterns to create above the beautiful Big Macrame coaster.

Most of us love to keep coasters/tablemates on coffee or dining table not only because they help to protect our surfaces from spills or other forms of damage but also these little accessories can also add beauty to our home. You can make this beautiful coaster by yourself, give it a try!

If you are a first-time macrame maker, for basic knots learning, you can refer to my Macrame Wall Hanging Tutorial.

Material required:

  1. 5 Macrame cotton cord pieces of 3.5 meters.
  2. 1 small rope for holding cords
  3. 1 roll of rope to fill in the patterns during the process of coaster making.

You can make a small round coaster or can proceed further to make the big coaster /tablemate.

                          Let’s get started

Step 1:Cutting macrame cotton cord pieces

=> Take a macrame cord of any color you like and cut 5 equal pieces of 3.5 meters. (A white macrame cord). Also, take 1 roll of rope to fill in the pattern(An orange cord)

Step 2: Small round Macrame coaster tutorial

=> 1) Take orange running roll, come to the half by measuring it with 1 piece of @3.5 meter rope.

2) Make a small circle and with the help of a lark knot attached 5 pieces of rope in a circular pattern as shown in the video. Pull the orange rope to form the middle point.

3) Form the circular pattern holding the running rope with the help of a lark knot. Keep on adding 1 piece of rope measured as shown in the video to fill up the gap.

Continue as per your preferences how big you have to make a round coaster.

Step 3: Square knots pattern

1) Take 4 strings and continue to tie 3 square knots around full circle as shown in the video to form a square knot pattern.

2) Add rope to divide the pattern as shown.

Step 4: Tie the rope to separate the pattern and half Hitch knot pattern

Step 5: Final pattern with square knots to finish the coaster
